Training
Some assistive technology (AT) is simple, and its operation self-evident. Other kinds of AT are more elaborate, requiring that the person using them learn and practice a variety of skills. Sometimes, new devices or software need to be up, installed, adjusted, or customized for the individual user's circumstances.
The Kornreich Technology Center provides training for individuals with disabilities in the use of assistive technology hardware or software. Training may be a brief orientation to a new device, or extended instruction in the use of complex technology, such as voice-recognition software. Training may be part of the recommendations from an AT evaluation done at the Kornreich Center, or may be requested separately by the consumer or a rehabilitation agency or professional.
Consultation
There are many agencies providing services to people with disabilities. The staff of those agencies have varying degrees of exposure to assistive technology. The Kornreich Technology Center provides consultations to agencies and individual practitioners with regard to integrating their clients’ assistive technology into the classroom, workplace, or other environment.
