Professional Development

The Collaborative supports the design and development of professional preparation materials to enhance and support pre-service and in-service practices for educators and other professionals working with students with disabilities.

Current Projects (February, 2002)

Pre-Service:
Infusion of assistive technology modules within courses:726.2T, 717.33T, 750.2T
Infusion of intro to physical disabilities module within courses: 750.1T, Ed34
Development of website modules for course infusion:"Low Tech Technology in the classroom"
Design of graduate course: "Emerging Practices in Special Education" (rotating topics, e.g.
Collaborative Decision Making, Complementary Practices, AT)
Development of new elective course: web-based: "Introduction to Physical Disabilities" (Fall-Winter, 2002-2003)


In-Service: Ventures in Leadership grant (Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund) with Garrison Union Free School District, NY to develop CD-ROM case study project involving students with disabilities for rural/suburban leadership personnel.

CD-ROM Child Abuse and Children with Disabilities grant through the Department of Social Services, Children's Justice program, Albany, NY

Ongoing development of websites: (1) Infusing Low Tech Technology in the Classroom; (2) School to Community Follow-Up of students returning to "home schools"

Staff development workshops: e.g. Assessing bilingual students, Para-Educator practices
