Staff Bio



Alberto M. Bursztyn, Ph.D.

Dr. Bursztyn hold degrees in Counseling Psychology (Columbia University), School Psychology and Science Education (Brooklyn College), Educational Leadership (NYU) and Geology (Brooklyn College). He has worked as a teacher, school psychologist and administrator in the NYC public schools. Since 1991 he has taught graduate special education and school psychology at BrooklynCollege where he holds the rank of professor. Dr. Bursztyn also teaches in the Ph.D. Program in Urban Education at the GraduateCenter of the City University of New York.  He is a New YorkState licensed psychologist and holds certificates in school psychology, school district administration. 

 

As a research associate of The Global Institute at Abilities! since 2001,  he has worked as a consultant on transition issues with staff at the HenryViscardiSchool, and has followed up with families who have placed their children with physical disabilities in their neighborhood schools. In 2007 he assumed the role of director of TGI. In this capacity he is involved in a number of research and innovation initiatives. His research and scholarship focuses on school change, diverse children with disabilities, and families. These areas of scholarship bridge his interests in psychology and education, and in identity development and school culture. Currently he is consulting with HVS administration and staff on school change initiatives and on supporting mental health initiatives with families.
